1 - Macro Express v 3.5b is released
Macro Express 3 version 3.5b has been released and is now available for download from our site at http://www.macros.com/download.htm.
All licensed Macro Express 3 users can download and install this update without cost.
Changes include:
- Made a modification to reduce the amount of memory consumed when saving a macro.
- Improved the security when importing macros from a password protected macro file.
After installing Macro Express 3, you can click Start | Programs | Macro Express | What's New for a
complete list of changes. You may also view the list of changes on the web by visiting http://www.macros.com/revise.htm.
2 - Macro Express Discussion Forum
The Macro Express Newsgroup discussion group has been replaced by the Macro Express Discussion Forum.
The new forum is web-based and can be accessed from your browser. It does not require the use of newsreader
software.
As with the old forum, the new forum is hosted by Professional Grade Macros. Joe Weinpert, of Professional Grade
Macros, says that the change was made to reach a wider audience. Everyone has access to a browser but many do not
have access to newsgroups. This seems to be the case since there has been a lot more activity on the new forum than
there was on the old forum.
The new forum software allows you to be notified, via email, when new topics are created and when a
reply is posted in a topic you are interested in.
Visit http://www.pgmacros.com/community to access
the Macro Express discussion forum.
An archive of the messages from the old forum is available here: http://pgmacros.com/community/index.php?showtopic=71.
3 - Tip: Capture the Position of a Mouse Click
A user asked "How would I prompt a user to click on the screen, capture that location, and assign variables
to it to be used later...such as in a copy and paste routine?"
The answer is: Use the Get Mouse Position command to do this. The sample macro below shows how this
works. Use a text box display command (Floating Box until close command or end of macro) and instruct
the user to click on the screen where required. Then insert a wait for left mouse click command. When
the user clicks on the location the text box will close and the mouse coordinates will be saved to
variables such as N1 and N2.
Text Box Display: Mouse Move
Wait Left Mouse Click
Text Box Close: Mouse Move
Get Mouse Position Screen: %N1%, %N2%
4 - User Submitted Macro - Calculator macro
Jörgen Nydahl submitted a calculator macro. It can calculate +-*/ and you get your calculation on a
"paper strip". This is a cool use of the Prompt for Variable command. Download this macro from http://www.macros.com/usermacs/umcalculator.htm.
Thank you Jörgen for sending us this macro. Jörgen wins a Macro Express T-shirt for his macro submission.
5 - Your Macros Can Speak - Text to Speech for Macro Express
I often use sound files in my macros. It can be very helpful for a macro to tell me which part of the
macro is running. And spoken error messages really grab your attention. In many cases I prefer spoken
messages over text messages that pop up on your screen because when a message pops up it can interfere
with the macro.
Now you can have your macros speak using SpeakIt, the new Text to Speech option for Macro Express.
See http://www.macros.com/speakit.htm for more information.
6 - New Lower Price for the PGM Functions Library with Source
Professional Grade Macros has reduced the price of the PGM Functions Library with Source Code from
